Bio

Ashley Marie Richiez is a self-taught artist from New England, where she grew up surrounded by its breathtaking landscapes. Since 2016, she has made Austin, Texas, her home, which has nurtured both her personal and creative life. Although Ashley’s artistic journey began in her youth, it wasn’t until adulthood that she fully embraced her passion for art. Through periods of introspection and growth, she discovered that creating art brought her a deep sense of joy and purpose.

Many of Ashley’s paintings begin with a landscape and the feeling of being in that place. Through color, movement, and organic forms, she brings those feelings to the canvas. Her work also explores memories and other moments that stay with her. She has shown her art in group exhibitions and local and online galleries, and has had the pleasure of collaborating with interior designers and studios.

Statement

As a self-taught artist, I’m inspired by being outside and by the way a place can make you feel. I work with acrylic and water on canvas, sometimes adding pastels, pigments, or charcoal. I’m interested in taking the feelings and impressions I carry with me and turning them into paintings. Exploring new places often sparks my creativity, but inspiration can also come from a memory or a feeling that’s harder to put into words.

I want my paintings to hold onto something about an experience: its color, movement, or the feeling of being there. I work in an abstract, expressive way, letting those pieces come together on canvas.

With every mark I make, I hope to hold onto a moment and leave room for a new story, one that can keep changing with the person looking at it.
